Reinstall Chromebook

  • Open the recovery app.
  • Click Get started.
  • Click Select a model from the list or type the model number of the Chromebook that you want to restore. You will find this number at the bottom of the error message on your Chromebook screen.
  • Click Continue.
  • Insert your USB stick or SD card in the computer.
  • Select the USB stick or SD card that you have placed in the dropdown menu.
  • Click Continue.
  • Click Create Now.
  • When the message appears that your recovery medium is ready, remove the USB stick or SD card from the computer.
  • If you have something connected to the Chromebook (such as a mouse or external hard drive), remove these peripherals.
  • Open the recovery mode: 
    
    Chromebook: Hold down Esc + Refresh and press the Power button. Release the on / off button. When a message is displayed on the screen, release the other keys.
    
    Chromebox: First switch it off. Hold down the restore button with a paper clip or something similar. Press the on / off button to switch the Chromebox on again. When a message is displayed on the screen, release the restore button.
    
    Chromebit: Unplug the power cord. Hold down the restore button with a paper clip or something similar. Reconnect the Chromebit to the power outlet. When a message is displayed on the screen, release the restore button.
    
    Chromebook tablet: Press and hold the Volume up, Volume down, and On / Off buttons for at least ten seconds.
  • You now see one of the following messages:
    
    "Chrome OS is missing or damaged. Insert a USB stick or SD card for recovery. "
    
    "Insert a USB stick or SD card for recovery."
  • Insert the USB stick or SD card that you used to make the recovery medium.
  • Follow the instructions on the screen.
